The long, fascinating presidential campaign has called the media landscape this year. For the most part, that was good news for the news business - and the big winners including cable news, politics apparel online, CBS Evening New anchor Katie Couric, and numerous reports of late night TV spoofers. But despite the on-line registration of readers, the picture was much more bleak for newspapers, which faced the sharpest decline in advertising revenue since the Great Depression.
